ModeratorI have tried to put this information in a logical order for consumption. Some of it I found out after I started taking a half a grain of rice worth of Cannabis Oil sublingually before bed every night. I wanted to increase my slow wave sleep and was very surprised that it eliminated my daily cataplexy. It has to be one helluva trigger now to set me off. I do not know how this will affect those without cataplexy… I mean, how would you know if it was working for you? Given that those with cataplexy have no hypocretin neurons, the consensus appears to be that it is an autoimmune disease. The origin of other types of IH or T2N could have other causes. This may be why some meds work for some people and not others.

Five ways marijuana affects your sleep…

http://www.leafscience.com/2014/09/13/marijuana-rem-sleep-dreams/PLEASE BE WARNED…that because cannabis oil is a REM (dream) suppressant that discontinuation will cause a REM rebound. That means that your insomnia and increased REM and tossing and turning will be WORSE for a while after discontinuing… and cataplexy rears its ugly head about four days after discontinuing. On the other hand, it took nearly two weeks when I started before it became obvious that the cataplexy had been taken care of… cumulative effect? Dunno.
The oil I use is made with a pure Indica called Afghani. It is grown organically. I cannot possibly state loudly enough that the quality and purity of your starting product is very very important. You can find other varieties of pure Indicas at http://www.leafly.com
Indica’s are sedating… Sativa’s are uplifting… CBD (cannabidiol is one cannabinoid that is non psychoactive) oil can also be stimulating. This is why I chose an Indica.

And a little bit about Linalool… that special terpene
So, you’ve got your perfect bud (1 ounce worth) and you’d like to make oil… here’s how… she is not the best spokesperson but it’s a good easy “how to”…

I hope that this post is a logical understanding of how I arrived at this point. Cannabis oil sublingually is fast, thorough and efficient… just take a look at those big veins underneath your tongue.
I do NOT want you to smoke cannabis because that will cause other health issues. Besides, it stinks.
Basically this is the condensed information from the very long “Cannabis Oil Round 3” thread on the NN forum and also the Cannabis Oil Cheat Sheet that I posted there (which is prettier in format). I hope it is helpful to some of you. Best of luck!

ModeratorWell, that took a bit of effort. It wasn’t a simple case of copy and paste and the format is not as nice… but the information is there and I have checked that all the links work. They don’t pop up in a second window either… š

ParticipantNothing has actually helped me more, for the long term, ~20 years.
I’ve taken long breaks at times, up to a year off, sort of at times in a large part to see, or rather gauge at, how it goes being off Cannabis.
My Cataplexy is definitely more uncontrolled, my sleep is even more fragmented with more dreams, my stress levels and endless running mind (like being in a high gear) are much worse off. Some would consider my consumption heavy while others would find it light, compared to their use.
It varies, but I do consume each day, in minimal, sometimes moderate, amounts.
Personally, I stick to only vaping dry cannabis, smoking is bad and I have a super sensitive throat.
Vaporizing allows for much more consistent titration (medicating, dosage), you can get devices now adays that allow for specific temps. The win, is that by using specific temps, you are able to get a consistent (near to the same) dosage and effect. Smoking adds hundreds of harmful carcinogens, vaping avoids such.
Eating Cannabis is tricky, as it is really hard to get as consistent an effect, it also is a different effect than vaping or smoking. Each person has their preference, today there are so many variations out there that you could be using transdermal patches or eating Cannabis gum…Am so thankful that I stumbled upon it long ago, even if it was a juvenile recreation outlawed activity.
It was recreational for a couple of years, while even then I was picking up on how it really helped me have less headaches and just functionally, I’m much better off.@Ferret – Thanks for trumpeting the reality here.

Moderator@WWP… yes, Mr. Sessions. Anything abused recreationally can mess with your head. But, we’re not talking about that are we? Especially when you only take a half a grain of rice worth of cannabis oil sublingually before bed. High? I’m asleep… deep asleep, I have NO idea if I’m high ‘cuz I’m ASLEEP. Get it?!?
This is a good article… the comments are good too.

ModeratorNot necessarily related to our particular problem but about a Doctor who has treated over 6,000 patients with medical marijuana and also found relief for himself. Gotta love Amazon when you can read the table of contents and excerpts of the book first before buying.

ModeratorFor our Brits on the forum…
https://hightimes.com/news/britain-reclassifies-cbd-oil-as-medicine-while-america-throws-it-in-with-heroin/Britain finally recognizes that CBD (cannabidiol) Oil is medicine. It contains no THC so is not psychotropic and it may not help the quality of your sleep but, if you suffer from seizures or pain, it MAY help. How many people here are tossing and turning because of the pain of inflammation?

KeymasterWell the current US admin (read: Sessions) is now trying to get Immodium to be behind the counter, because some heroin addicts use it to ease withdrawal ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ . The puritanism is getting out of control, especially since it so out of step with the opinion of the public. But yea, I’m not expecting any progress on this front in the US for the foreseeable future unfortunately, le sigh

ModeratorThat link should read “long term SMOKING of pot”. Wonder what the percentage of these people is compared to the percentage of people who do smoke pot…
